HIV Prevention Campaign Targets Houston’s Black and Latino Communities

Over 1,000 Houstonians were diagnosed with HIV in 2017, and three out of five of them were LGBTQ African-Americans and Latino. To combat one of the city’s top health epidemics, the Houston Health Department (HHD) has launched its first-ever campaign that reaches out directly to LGBTQ African-Americans and Latinos.

Houston Launches First HIV Prevention Campaign for Queer and Trans People of Color

The campaign features 20 ambassadors, all members of Houston’s LGBTQ+ community, who are telling their stories to help combat HIV stigma. The campaign is in English and Spanish and includes five public service announcements about pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) as well as treatment for prevention.
